I was able to experience the BEAUTIFUL Oregon Coast for the first time in the summer of 2008. My wife and her family and I all went up and stayed in a rental home within walking distance to the beach in Lincoln City. I live in Roy, UT and I am a short drive from many beautiful destinations including Zion National Park, Arches National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Lake Powell, and Grand Canyon, not to mention all of the beautiful areas along the Wasatch Front Mountain range right in my back yard. I was completely amazed by the beauty of, both, the scenery and the wildlife that I was able to see as we explored the coast of Oregon. There is nothing like it in Utah. We saw crab, starfish, muscles, seals, sea lions, bald eagles and even whales from a distance. These were all firsts for me outside of captivity. While we were there we chartered trip on a boat to head out in the ocean from Newport in hopes of sighting a whale or two. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate with us that day and we were unable to go much past Yaquina Bay Bridge into the ocean due to high swells. It was a lot of fun, never the less, and our kids enjoyed crab fishing and even got to captain the ship for a bit while in the bay. Even before leaving Oregon I’ve been planning and dreaming of going back. We’d love to go in December or early spring in order to increase our odds of getting a closer view of the migrating whales. Unfortunately my wife has since been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which in turn, along with the costs of prescriptions, doctor and hospital bills, the turn in the economy and some other unfortunate circumstances, has left us in serious financial trouble. Winning this contest would be amazing! Not only would we get to go back and see more of the coast, its unique wildlife, majestic waterfalls and historical light houses, but more importantly I’d be able to take my beautiful wife of 5 years on the honeymoon we were never able to afford.
